Her Story Begins in Oklahoma.

Owana Michelle White was born on October 23, 1956, in Nuyaka, Oklahoma, to Walter and Izetta White. The fourth of six children, Owana grew up surrounded by family in the community that shaped her early years.

She graduated from Beggs High School in 1974 and continued her education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, earning a degree in Accounting in 1978.

Her journey would eventually take her beyond Oklahoma, opening the door to new experiences, meaningful relationships, and a life of service.

A New Chapter in Colorado

In 1982, Owana began a new chapter in Denver, Colorado, where she married Dwayne Williams and continued building a life centered on family, faith, and service.

With a degree in accounting from Northeastern State University, Owana pursued a career that included work with the Colorado Judicial Branch. Beyond her professional accomplishments, she became involved in her community, building meaningful relationships and contributing her time and talents to others.

Colorado became an important part of Owana’s story—a place where her personal and professional life continued to grow.

Faith, Service & Adventure

Faith was a meaningful part of Owana’s life. After converting to Catholicism in 1983, she became involved in the Catholic community and contributed her time and talents to organizations serving Black Catholics.

Her spiritual journey also took her beyond Colorado, including a pilgrimage to Medjugorje. For Owana, travel was more than visiting new places—it was an opportunity to deepen her faith, experience different cultures, and connect with others.

She embraced life with curiosity and a spirit of adventure, finding meaning in both the places she explored and the people she encountered.

The Little Things That Made Her Special

Owana’s story was also found in life’s everyday pleasures. She enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with the people she loved. Among the dishes remembered were her fruit pizza and steak and gravy—simple reminders of the warmth she brought to family gatherings.

These moments were just as meaningful as her accomplishments and adventures. Through food, conversation, laughter, and time spent together, Owana created memories that would remain with those who knew her.

Her life reminds us that a lasting legacy is built not only through what we achieve, but through the love and joy we share along the way.

A Life Remembered

On August 23, 1992, Owana Michelle Williams passed away at just 35 years old due to complications from lupus.

Although her life was far too short, the love she shared, the relationships she nurtured, and the memories she created continued to live on through her family and everyone whose life she touched.

Owana’s story is a reminder that the impact of a life cannot be measured simply in years, but in the lasting connections and memories left behind.

The Promise Behind Owana World

Owana’s legacy lives on in a promise made by her brother-in-law, Captain Rob.

Moved by the life she lived and the memories she left behind, Captain Rob promised that one day he would name a business in her honor.

Years later, that promise became Owana World.

More than a business name, Owana World is a tribute to a woman whose life reflected faith, family, love, and a spirit of adventure.

Today, Owana World carries her name forward, celebrating the joy of discovery, meaningful connections, and experiences that bring people together.

Through every new journey and every connection made, Owana’s memory remains part of the story.
